YES program

𝐘𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 – a new group of budding young entrepreneurs from Tereora College have now taken on the challenge of completing the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) programme this year.
Administered by us here at the Commerce on behalf of the Young Enterprise Trust in New Zealand and generously sponsored by BCI, the YES programme has been a feature of Tereora’s business studies class since 2013, teaching students how to set up and run their very own businesses.
Past products offered for sale by these student-run businesses have included child safety motorbike harnesses, organic ice cream, water pressure monitoring devices and a locally produced perfume.
Accompanied by their teacher Christina Ganivatu, the four student teams taking part this year recently attended the YES programme’s official ‘Kickstart’ day, where they heard from Chamber CEO Eve Hayden, who highlighted the importance of private enterprise to the national economy and talked them through how the Chamber has been assisting businesses to date.
